Have you ever wondered why Liverpool always play pre season games against Tranmere Rovers every year? So have I. So here’s the reason. Most might not know this, but Liverpool Fc, Everton Fc and Tranmere Fc are all in the same city of Merseyside, Liverpool. As a matter of fact, Tranmere Rovers are much closer to Liverpool Fc geographically than Everton fc.
The only reason this isn’t obvious is because they aren’t close to the 2 other clubs in terms of Size, Assets, Marketability and practically anything else. Now despite the Onfield rivalries and beef between Liverpool Fc and Everton Fc over the years, there is actually a special off field bond between Everyone living in Merseyside. This bond can only be experienced if you live in the city and not through TV sets.
The greatest beneficiaries of this bond is the smallest brother in the family “Tranmere Rovers”. Its been reported by fans of the small club that a number of Liverpool and everton fans always troop their way to prenton park (tranmeres stadium) every Friday and pay for tickets to watch the team play league 2 football before walking over to anfield/goodison the following day for EPL football.
And Liverpool took the very bold step of organizing pre season games against them where majority of the funds raised is given to the club for support of their finances.. So most matches we play with them is actually for their interest and growth. It also goes the other way round, as the Liverpool U23’s have been given free access to prenton park for matches as well as the LFC women team who Tranmere have allowed to share their stadium for league matches
The city of Merseyside even in rivalry is United. No wonder, the season we won our 6th UCL title was the same season Tranmere got promoted to League one..
